Refrigerant capacity Prior to installing any tool that compromises refrigerant levels, we should perform delta checks on both sides of the evaporator. If the system is not running adding gauges only compromise cost savings and the environment. After deltas are recorded we will move to quantify air flow in the system and offer corrections. If there is a reasonable expectation the system is running efficiently but failing to keep up we then move to identify envelope air flow and once again offer solutions based upon findings. Both options are separately identified, have separate solutions and never infringe on a customer’s budget unnecessarily. Simply adding or removing refrigerant seldom provides a solution and most often proves we are guessing at performance rather than diagnosing the system. In most instances the issues working against performance should be obvious. Inadequate air intake, high static through grills and filters, and incorrect distribution systems. Air flow measurement should be easy. Look up capacity and match it with fan settings and static pressure. Always be sure the system ’s internal settings are correct. We have witnessed systems running with thirty to forty percent too much air through the chassis to find we must remove refrigerant once fan settings are corrected. Data is only half the challenge For the same reasons to remain bullish on the HVAC industry, I am hesitant to buy into the idea Artificial Intelligence
will have a significant impact on our industry. Control enhancement, load calculations and many other areas will be impacted. Deciphering data and application of solutions will keep AI guessing for a while. Fact is your job in the industry is a difficult one. Why not profit from the opportunity to fix what eighty percent of industry ignores? Inventory is available.
