HVAC ductwork or near air handler cooling coils to treat and disinfect the supply airstream and HVAC equipment interiors. The Primrose School of Lake Wylie, N.C. initiated the strategy with bids from local contractors to outfit their 10 Lennox split system HVAC units with UVC light systems. Guardian Air Heating & Air Conditioning, Waxhaw, N.C., won the project, because its UVC equipment offered three-year advanced UVC lamps and a lifetime guarantee. Equally important, the air treatment systems are UL-2998 validated as zero ozone emitting. Ozone is generated by some indoor air quality (IAQ) manufacturers’ UV products even though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states its presence is a respiratory irritant. Other contractors offered equipment with only one or two-year power supply limited warranties and more replacement intensive one-year lamps. Soon after, Primrose School of South Charlotte and Primrose School of Fort Mill, S. C. followed Lake Wylie’s lead and hired Guardian Air Heating & Air Conditioning to install UVC systems on their facilities’ 10 HVAC systems. The three schools have identical 11,600-square-foot building footprints conditioned by 10 split system HVAC systems ranging from two to four tons each and heated with gas-fired furnaces. The South Charlotte location was the only location with Trane split systems while the others were Lennox equipment. Guardian Air Heating & Air Conditioning installed the air treatment systems in each of the 10 system’s supply air duct. Each project took a couple of days for Gerow to complete.
Indoor Air Quality Taking Important role in School Installations Charlotte, N.C. area Primrose Schools improve ventilation with combination UVC light systems installed in HVAC units by Guardian Air Heating and Air Conditioning. By Aaron Engel Waxhaw, N.C. — While many Charlotte, N.C. area schools considered closing during the pandemic, three Primrose Schools remained open and proactively installed ultraviolet disinfection systems with activated carbon catalyst in their HVAC systems to help protect students and staff. Besides daily surfaces sanitization, mandatory hand-washing, crib sheet laundering and other health and safety practices, the three Charlotte-area Primrose School franchisees also installed APCO-X air treatment systems to help disinfect potential viruses and other pathogens. The UVC disinfection equipment became another precautionary health and safety tool for the schools, which are part of the Primrose Schools’ national system of accredited preschools. The UVC technology, manufactured by Fresh-Aire UV, Jupiter, Fla., is third party, laboratory-proven >99.99% effective (within a three-second exposure time at a six-inch distance) for neutralizing SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the COVID-19 disease. The UV disinfection systems, which include the lifetime activated carbon catalyst called EverCarbon with an anti-microbial coating are typically installed inside
