Making a Profit Why are you in business? Well, we can all say we want to help others, we want to be our own boss, etc. etc.; but, regardless of our intrinsic motivation, we have to make a profit. And many, if not most of us, do not know how to make a profit. If we have money in the bank, we must be profitable. If the supply house still allows us to charge, we must be profitable. If we just bought a new truck, we must be profitable. If we made payroll, we must be profitable. Well it “taint” necessarily so and if it is for today, will it last? Making a profit is a science with lots of math. Simple math but very important math. That is a bargain when you check out the cost of financial consultants. So, who is Ruth King. Ruth holds an MBA in Finance from Georgia State University and holds a contractor’s license (inactive) in Georgia. She teaches financial literacy for manufacturer ’ s dealers; Carier, Johnstone Supply, Lennox, Rheem, Ruud, Trane, Goodman, etc. etc. She has written numerous manuals including Operations Manuals: Best Practices for Running a Profitable Service and Replacement Company. She contributes monthly to HVACR Business, the nationally syndicated radio show, The Price of Business, and has been interviewed by the Wall Street Journal Radio Network, the Big Biz Show.
